Creating a High Light World
On my ‘to read’ list is a book titled The Power of Bad: How the Negativity Effect Rules Us and How We Can Rule It by John Tierney and Roy F. Baumeister. I recently listened to a podcast in which Tierney stated that we currently live in a “high bad” world, where “merchants of bad” in the media work to make us think the world is worse than it really is. This checks out, right? A preponderance of media today focuses us on the depressing and depraved when what we deeply crave is the enlightening and excellent.
I want to be a purveyor of light. By that I mean one who brings to the fore the good, the beautiful, the helpful, the hopeful, the ennobling. This statement from a Hal Boyd article set me on a mission to help tip the scales in favor of light: “In an age of message bombardment, those with the ability to translate and alchemize information into accessible and practical actions have the capacity to light society’s path toward a more hopeful state.”
A more hopeful state. YES, please.
This site is my hopeful contribution. It will be a place where goodness is aggregated, and where practical, positive actions are encouraged. In a “high bad” world, I aim to establish a place of “high light.”
Check in when you need to. You’ll find only that which is worthwhile and points you to greater hope. There might be a few laughs along the way too…
So glad you’re here.
